Invention/Technology Overview

See patent application # 12/714,305
A platform that almost any type of sundial can be placed on it. Most sundials have to line up with the north/south axis of the earth. The device has a magnet that allows the body and platform to align to magnetic north and the platform is adjustable to adjust for the difference between true north and magnetic north. The device has adjustable weights to balance the platform and body so that it works like a compass needle.

Novelty and Benefits

It's an unique novelty device. Can be made very cheaply. Could sell for 3 or more times the cost to make. Has a huge amount of design possibilities. Could be sold as a science kit. Students could assemble ad keep their own sundials while discussing such things as magnetism, earth's rotation and orbit, friction, angular momentum, center of gravity, history of time keeping, etc. The basic structure could be sold as an art medium. People could design their own sundials and attachments. A simple decorative design could be made for the home or office and besides being a novelty device it also has a useful function- it tells time.
